Spaghetti Bolognaise

I strongly suspect that this is very much a British version, not an Italian one. Spaghetti Britagnaise?

  • 1 onion, chopped

    Moderate heat: fry for 10-15 minutes until golden.

  • 300g minced beef

    Moderate to high heat: fry until well browned.

  • 2/3 tin of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 2 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 1 1/2 tsp mixed herbs
  • 1 tsp basil, dried
  • 100ml of water

    Moderate to high heat: mix well and bring to the boil.

  • 1 large red pepper, chopped
  • 150g closed-cup mushrooms, chopped
  • 2 bay leaves, large

    Return to the boil then simmer for 20-30 minutes.

Serve with pasta.
